Bio 18 Aug. 1936 - 17 Febr. 2004, in his last position professor at the RWTH, Aachen, and honorary professor at the North-East University of Technology in Shenyang, China. With a professional career in the field of metallurgical engeneering, Hans-Eugen Bühler developed a special interest in the history of mining and metallurgy - an interest which resulted in numerous publications as well as in actual reconstructions of early modern iron and steel works and mines. Hans-Eugen Bühler was, following a private hobby horse, one of the leading experts on the German book production during the Second World War, a man of startling vitality and curiosity equipped with the most peculiar sense for materials to be uncovered, whether hidden under ground or to be detected in archives.
