The preface of vol. 1 of Queen Zarah is a close rendering of a treatises published by Morvan De Bellegarde in his Lettres curieuses de littérature et de morale (Paris: Jean & Michel Guignard, 1702) which again had reshaped thoughts first published anonymously in [Du Plaisir’s,] Sentimens sur les lettres et sur l’histoire, avec des scruples sur le stile (Paris: C. Blageart, 1683).
