History

Silver coin issued in Braunschweig-Calenberg, Braunschweig Wolfenbüttel, Hanover als Lüneburg, Hildesheim usually subdivided into 8 Pfennige. 48 Mariengroschen matched one Reichsthaler species, 36 the Reichsthaler currency unit. Mariengroschen were regularly issued in coins of 1, 2, 4, 6, 12, 24.
